SAWYERMAKERLAB is a Seattle design build firm with over a decade of experience in all aspects of design, construction and fabrication. SML is dedicated to preserving the integrity of design through utility and the honesty of the construction through craft.

SML is also a signifier for the scale of work produced in the lab.

S-SMALL: Components, hardware, industrial design, objects
M-MEDIUM: Furniture, storage, workspaces, installations
L-LARGE: Residential/small commercial architecture, structures, remodels

The architecture, furniture, designs and residential projects are the works of Jason Sawyer [principal] and occasional collaborators.

Inspirations for the projects are derived from purpose, simplicity and form while the craftsmanship is expressed in the techniques, methodology and execution. Locally sourced materials, whether found or foraged, serve to inform the design as well as its process.

As a designer, I realize that in order to fully address the program or problem at hand, all lines of communication must be open, multiple ideas must be explored and designs have to be adaptive. Only then can the project truly bear the fruit of its labour.
